Canada has no domestically accredited body certifying people in energy efficiency. Every credential the industry runs on was issued somewhere else, by organizations that are good at what they do and are not Canadian. That is the gap CABCEP exists to close, and closing it properly takes years.

What we are doing now

What we are not

Why build it at all, then

Because the alternative is permanent: Canadian energy programmes referencing American credentials written against American codes, climate and rate structures, and a retrofit industry with no quality instrument whatsoever. The bodies that hold those credentials are not going to build a Canadian one. The way these organizations actually get established is by making themselves useful first and earning the right to certify afterwards — which is the order we are working in, publicly, so it can be checked.

Relationships and disclosure

CABCEP sits within a wider group of Canadian energy businesses, some of which deliver training and operate commercially in this industry. That relationship is capable of creating a threat to impartiality. It is disclosed in the impartiality policy, together with what must be separated and documented before any CABCEP certification is issued. We would rather publish that while it is inconvenient than be asked about it later.
