The Canadian Energy Practitioner Registry

A building owner with a contractor in front of them cannot check what that contractor holds. The federal directory lists organizations rather than people. Association lists are partial and members-only. So nobody checks, and the credential stops doing the one job a credential exists to do.

What the registry is

Public. No login, no membership, no paywall in front of the search.
National. Every province and territory, in one place, with one search.
Searchable. By province, by city, by discipline, and by credential.
Verified. Every credential checked with the organization that issued it before the entry appears, with the date of that check shown on the entry.
Free to be on. Basic listing is free now and stays free.
Open to every issuing body. Federal registration, American credentials, provincial licences, trade certificates. We did not have to certify you.

How verification works

You tell us what you hold and who issued it, with the registration or certificate number.
We check it against the issuing organization's own record — its public verification tool where one exists, and directly with the body where one does not.
A credential that checks out is published with the issuer named and the verification date shown.
A credential that cannot be verified is not published, and we tell you why rather than leaving you wondering.
Entries are re-checked on a cycle, and expiry dates are shown where the issuer publishes them.

Why we list other bodies' people

Because a register of only our own certificants is a customer list with a serious name on it. The registry is useful precisely in proportion to how complete it is, and completeness means listing practitioners certified by organizations that compete with the idea of us existing.

It also disciplines us. A registry we do not control the membership of is one we cannot quietly bend in our own favour.

What a listing does not mean

A listing is a statement that a named organization issued a named credential to this person and that we checked it on a given date. It is not an endorsement, not a recommendation, not a warranty of work quality, and not a certification by CABCEP — CABCEP issues none. Service areas and disciplines are self-declared and shown as such. Hiring decisions, and the checking that goes with them, remain yours.

Disclosure

CABCEP is not an accredited certification body. It holds no accreditation from the Standards Council of Canada or any other accreditation body and has no application in progress. It presently issues no certification of any kind.

The registry is a published record of credentials issued by other organizations. It confers nothing, and nothing on it originates with us.

Where it is

The registry is in build and registrations are open now. Entries are being verified and seeded ahead of the public search opening. Getting your listing submitted early means it is live on day one rather than in the queue.

Common questions

Does it cost anything to be listed?

No. A basic listing is free now and will remain free. Enhanced listings may be offered later; the basic entry and the public search will not go behind a fee.

I am certified by an American body. Can I be listed?

Yes. NABCEP, BPI, AEE credentials and others are all listable, named as their issuer words them. Where a credential came from is information, not a barrier.

Do I have to be certified by CABCEP?

You cannot be — CABCEP does not issue any certification. The registry lists what other bodies have issued.

What if my credential expires?

Entries are re-verified on a cycle and expiry dates are shown where the issuer publishes them. An expired credential is marked as expired rather than quietly deleted.

Can I be removed?

Yes, on request, at any time, without giving a reason.
